Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that can help a cracked or broken tooth that cannot be restored with a dental filling. They can also be used for many other dental restorations when necessary, like a root canal treatment or a dental bridge treatment. Dental crowns cover the top surface of your tooth, which is also called your tooth enamel. This restoration can help weak and fragile teeth gain their strength and health once again. Think about all the pressure we put on our teeth each day. If one of your teeth becomes too weak, there’s a chance you could break your tooth, which is typically quite inconvenient and painful. At Englehardt & Nelson Family Dentistry, Dr. Geoff Englehardt and Dr. Raechel Nelson make sure your teeth are healthy and strong and, if necessary, they will give you the right treatment that will help you restore your tooth’s health and appearance.

Installing the Crown
Generally, installing a dental crown over the tooth will take two visits to our office. During the first appointment, our dentists will prepare the tooth by removing the decay as well as shaping the outer shell to make room for the dental crown. Next, our dentists will make impressions of your tooth and you will be given a temporary crown. Then, we have to wait a few weeks while the dental laboratory technicians custom make your perfect dental crown. When we get the crown back from the lab, you’ll come back into our office. During the second visit, our dentists will remove the temporary crown and will cement your new, beautiful, natural-looking crown into place. This will give you the strong, healthy and beautiful tooth you need to have a healthy and attractive smile. Your new crown will feel comfortable and natural. It will last a long time if you take good care of it with routine dental hygiene and professional cleaning appointments.
